THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY- APRIL 6

Masters factors: Amen Corner

The turning point in many Masters' golf tournaments comes at Amen Corner- the 11th, 12th, and  13th holes of the Augusta National Golf Club, which are situated along Rae's Creek.

Rae's Creek runs in front of the number 12 green. Elevated tee shots attacking the flagstick of the short par -3 have kept Masters' contenders scrambling from the watery hazard.

The term Amen Corner was first used by Herbert Warren Wind in the April 21, 1958, edition of Sports Illustrated. borrowing the term from an old jazz recording, "Shouting at Amen Corner," Wind wrote that Amen Corner at Augusta was composed of hole numbers 11, 12 and 13.
