PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- SIXERS, PHILLIES, FLYERS

- Sixers won their lucky 13th game in a row, beating the Cavs 132-130. First time since the 80s the Sixers have such a winning streak. They should have the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. With three games left in the regular season they should cruise into the postseason with an incredible 16-game winning streak.

Even without Joel Embiid the 76ers led by as many as 30 points last night. They tended to blow big leads during the season and almost did so again, as LeBron James scored 44 points and nearly brought Cleveland back. Hopefully the excitement in the Wells Fargo Center last night will have a good impression on LeBron to join the Sixers this summer.

Give GM Colangelo credit for constructing this current team, not Sam Hinkie. Hinkie promoted tanking, Colangelo has added pieces not detracted.

Why not the Sixers? After Villanova won the national championship Monday night, Charles Barkley predicted the Sixers would win the NBA title. Joking or not, why not? Who can beat them in the East? They proved they can beat the Cavaliers. Boston is without Kyrie Irving for the rest of the season. Toronto is good but beatable. With home court advantage in the first round, why can't the Sixers go far in the playoffs?

- The Phillies resume play tonight with another game against Miami. The Phils play two of the weakest teams in the National League on this home stand, the Marlins and the Reds. Chance for team to rebound  from their poor start on the road. Next weekend the Phillies head south, playing in Tampa Bay then Atlanta again.

- Watching the baseball club now, it's a combination of checking out the young players like Kingery and Hoskins, and waiting for the next mistake by new manager Kapler. Maybe the fans did send a message to Kapler when they lustily booed him during the home opener on Thursday. Kapler went on to manage a fairly conservative game. Maybe he will think twice before diving into analytics and use more common sense, at least in front of Phillies' fan at home.

- Big game for the Flyers this afternoon against the New York Rangers. Flyers trying to clinch a playoff berth. Ge tin and anything can happen. Realistically, this squad is too inconsistent to go far, but making the postseason may save coach Dave Hakstol's job.. If a whole bunch of "ifs' happen, such as Flyers lose by two goals today and Florida wins their final two games, it is conceivable Philly and the panthers would need to do a play=in game on Tuesday to determine the last playoff spot.
