PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- EAGLES, PHILLIES

- I like the Eagles draft so far. Burning Dallas  by moving ahead of them in Round 2 and taking tight end Dallas Goedert  was another brilliant move by Howie Rossman. Goedert fills another need since Trey Burton left. Another Dakota football stud.

- The Cleveland Browns are absolutely the most pathetic, clueless organization in all of sports. They whiffed on both of their high first round picks. Meanwhile, the rest of the NFC East got no significantly better to dethrone the Birds. The Giants will be improved by taking running back Barkley, but who will block for him> Plus, unless they get a QB today, they have Eli Manning for a few more years.  The Cowboys are lacking weapons, especially with TE Jason Whitten suddenly announcing his retirement to join the Monday Night Football broadcasting booth. The Redskins still aren't good enough with Alex Smith at QB.

- Delusional Dallas still thinks it's America's Team. Poor job hosting the draft. How can the Cowboys be America's Team  when they haven't been in a Super Bowl since the 90s? Talk about living in the past..

- David Akers is now an Eagle legend. To rub it into the Cowboy fans - in Dallas- after winning a Super Bowl, was the best.

- Hopefully the Birds pick up a running back and a wide receiver/punt returner today in the draft. Depth at linebacker, offensive line and the secondary would be cool.

- The Phillies beat Atlanta last night, with Herrera blasting a pair of home runs and Alfaro hitting a solo shot.  After a shaky 1st inning, Nola settled down and got the win after seven innings. The Mets won in San Diego last night, so the Phils remain 1/2 game behind New York for first place in NL East.  Nick Pivetta pitches tonight.

- The Braves and Phillies should battle for supremacy in the division for years. Both have  good young players at the major league level, and both have productive farm systems.  In Albies and  Axuna Atlanta has a solid base to build on.
