REGGIE!
The Candy Bar game
"When you open it up, it tells you how good it is."
- Catfish Hunter
On this day in 1978, New York Yankee fans attending the home opener against the White Sox were presented with free Reggie candy bars, the new candy that was spurred by Jackson's quote in 1976 that, "If I played in New York, they'd name a candy bar after me."
In the first inning, facing the White Sox knuckleballer Wilbur Wood, with Mickey Rivers and Willie Randolph on base, Jackson took the first two pitches for balls then homered to deep right-center field. The fans delayed the game by showering the field with the Reggie! Bar. Yankees 4, White Sox 2. (Bronx, New York)
