IDOL CHATTER- THE FINAL 24

Comments about American Idol, as we now know the final 24 contestants..

- The judges have been entertaining, funny, silly at times, offering support and constructive criticism, and overall have been fine. I like them, hope they do well in the live shows and hope they return next season.

-  Why does it have to be 12 males and 12 females in the final 24 ( unless you're the drag queen- where does he/she fall?). What if there are stronger singers in one sex, but you are forced to leave someone out because you need a male to round out the final group, not a female? not fair and doesn't make sense.

- The annoying, geeky and awkward Catie made it thru to the final 24. Of course, she over-reacted, sinking to the floor and bawling while the judges had their hands full trying to pick her  up. Local girl or not she is an embarrassment and really can't sing or write music. Why the judges find her "cute and quirky' is beyond me. If only Simon were still around. but maybe the judges feel America will eventually do the dirty deed and vote her off, in which there will be even more melodrama. Plainly put, she doesn't have "it' to win it all- not the voice, looks or personality. I expect her to make the final 14 next week- why, I have no clue.

- Her latest hook-up, Noah, got the boot, thank goodness. He had neither the voice, talent or look to succeed. The farmboy didn't even have the common sense to listen to the judges when they advised him to keep his fat-self behind the electric keyboard. Once he started pacing the stage his voice quickly swerved off-key and his overall appearance turned stupid. So give the judges credit for getting it right.

- The drag queen made it. His/her act is a gimmick, and shouldn't last long. He/she performs as a woman, yet  faces Final Judgement from the judges as a guy, without the make-up and woman's clothing. What's that all about?  Apparently he/she returns next weekend as a woman. Can't he/she sing with being a woman? How awkward for an audience.  It's not right to make us feel uncomfortable just because you have a hang-up about your sexuality or can't perform ( sing) in one gender. Totally weird.

- Lil' Layla Spring may it and i hope she stays a while. She is a fresh face with no gimmick. Just wholesomeness. She could be America;s Sweetheart if she plays her cards right and doesn't overdo the sweetness and sugar.

- I'm not surprised the hunky construction worker, Trevor, Katy Perry's squeeze, was sent home. He really couldn't sing. He was handsome and knew it, probably full of himself, and thought he could stand on stage, smile and win hearts, as he won Katy's heart. Kudos to Katy for keeping it real.

- The rocker Cade is growing on me. He should go far. Good to have a rocker in the group, like Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry. The feather hanging off his electric guitar is a trademark now. Cade may not win it all but I bet he makes Top Five.

- The country, deep throated, smooth Caleb Lee Hutchinson had a poor performance but ended up making it. i see him lasting a long time too and the battle between rocker vs. country guy vs one of the R&B singers could be interesting down the road.

- Jurnee made it. her wife flew in form the military overseas. Several slick female singers made it, but will they last or all be cookie-cutter, Karaoke-type divas?

In the end, those who really deserved to go went. None of this "It's just not your time", or "We'll see you next year". These judges are too nice. Don't sugar-coat it. You ain't got what it takes. You can't sing. Do something else in life you are good at. Singing, entertaining, being a star just isn't it. Move on. Be proud you had thew guts to try, but don't sink your dreams and entire life around a silly music competition. Not everyone is or can be Carrie Underwood.

Believe in yourself, but also be real.

- Next weekend it's down to the final 14 where the voting starts.
