THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY- APRIL 3

My Maine Men

"They'll go down as one of the greatest teams in college hockey history."

- Jeff Jackson (Lake Superior Head Coach)

Twenty-five years ago tonight, the Maine black Bears came back from a 2-goal deficit and beat Lake Superior State 5-4, completing a 42-1-2 record and National Ice Hockey Championship.

Led by Senior Mike Montgomery, who scored all three goals for Maine in the championship final period, and freshman phenom Paul Kariya. Montgomery finished his career with 301 points while the Hobey Baker Award winner Kariya set a school season record of 100 points. Garth Snow and Mike Dunham formed one of the best goalie tandems in college hockey history. (Frozen Four, Milwaukee, Wisconsin).
