Monday night was entertaining with the final duets and last cuts to 14. Here are my thoughts..
- A weird group makes it to the final 14. As expected, the drag queen, Ada, made it thru. I still think he/she is a gimmick, but now it's up to America to vote it out. Ada won't win in the end, but will go far and become a celebrity.
Jurnie is the proclaimed lesbian. Marcio is the cryer. Two teen heart-throbs made it. Neither will win because they just aren't good singers.
Maddie Poppie is a coffeehouse-type singer. She won me over with her unique song-choice of "Brand New Key." Cade, the rocker, will go far, as long as he doesn't pigeon-hole himself into rocker only. Catie Turner is the annoying, geeky contestant who took a spot from a far-more deserving singer.
Caleb made it, as the competition needed the lone country singer in the group. The hair-flipping girl is too young, can't really sing, but she made it.
I was OK with the people voted out, except for lil' Layla Spring last week, who, in my opinion, was a much better singer then some who made it this week.
So next week the group is cut form 14 to the top 10. Solo performances, the cut, then live shows begin.
- By the way, Idol had it's lowest ratings ever on Sunday night, lower than even it's FOX days. Is it the poor talent? The judges too-nice act wearing thin? Or people just don't care?
Idol is way too expensive to produce now, even before the bad ratings. Part of the problem is the judges' salaries. Katy is making $25 million. Seacrest and Luke are earning $12 million. Lionel is making $10 million. In total, that;s 60% more than the old days when Simon, Randy and Paula ruled.
Speaking of which, not having Simon on is killing ABC. Ever since Simon left the show has been declining. He was entertaining and honest. ABC should've paid him whatever he wanted to bring him back. That's the secret- no Simon.
