- Everything has snowballed since Opening Day when new manager Gabe Kapler pulled ace Aaron Nola in the sixth inning of a game he was easily winning, 5-0 over the Braves. It's early, but I don't have much faith in Kapler, GM Klentek or analytics. Unless changes are made it's going to be a long summer ahead.
- So far, analytics haven't won the Phils a game. but analytics have lost the team a few games already. Take yesterday, for instance. Analytics can have influence on the offense, on bullpen decisions, and on defense, as right fielder Nick Williams played too shallow as a triple soared over his head, scoring the deciding two runs in a 4-2 Mets victory.
- The Phillie hitters strikeout way too much. Are they thinking too much at the plate? They're not clutch either, leaving too many men on base ( the rare times they do reach scoring position). Who is the hitting coach? Does the ever-changing, inconsistent line-up have an effect as well? Shouldn't Kingery hit at or near the top of the batting order?
- I'm already sick of Kingery not playing second base everyday as he should be. Rhys Hoskins should be at first base. The two brightest young stars of the future are being jerked around by Phillies' management. Klentek and co. have constructed this lineup and team all wrong. Speed and table-setters should be leading-off.
- The Phils open their home season today at 3:00 vs the lowly Miami Marlins. Sweep the series ( including Jake Arrieta's debut on Sunday) and suddenly the team is back to .500. Lose and they fall even further back in National league east and Kapler' grave is dug deeper.
- The Sixers won their 12th game in a row last night, beating the pistons in Detroit. Tomorrow night is a key game against Cleveland, who are only a 1/2 game ahead of Philly for the number 3 seed in the NBA Eastern Conference.
- The Eagles signed Green Bay tight end Richard Rodgers to a one-year contract. Rodgers has a reputation as a good blocker. Why not just resign Brent Celek? Look for the Birds to still seek a young tight end in the upcoming draft.
- Donnie Jones has "unretired". Would the Eagles consider re-signing him since they obviously need a punter?
