PHILLY SPORTS CPRNER- VILLANOVA, PHILLIES

- Congrats to Villanova for winning their second national championship in three years! Winners of 22 straight Big Five  games, this has to be the greatest run by a local college basketball team is Philadelphia history.

- It won't happen as Jay Wright won't leave Nova, but wouldn't he be perfect as coach of the Sixers, a young, upcoming team?

- My favorite Joe Conklin lines this morning about the disaster named Gabe Kapler: 1- Maybe Ryne Sandberg can talk Kapler into quitting? 2- Can Doug Pederson coach the Phillies after throwing out the first pitch at the home opener on Thursday? 3- Look for Kapler's profile on the site Over-match.com"

- Kapler gave an interview to beat writer Todd Zelecki Monday since the Phils were snowed-out of their game in New York.  He said the fans were "probably right' in being upset over his managing in Atlanta. He again thinks pulling Nola in the first game wasn't a mistake, tried to palm-off the bullpen disaster Saturday night on his coaches, and  warns that more position players may pitch this season.

Why did Matt Klentak hire this guy? Kapler is slick, and did he con the inexperienced Klentak? Why hire a guy so unqualified and inexperienced? Kapler is doing on-the-job training, a disgrace for a major league club. The Phillies' owners have invested too much money into a season that may be wasted because of a new managers' heavy beliefs in analytics and lack of common sense. the fans have invested their time, money and hearts into a summer full of promise and hope, our expectations high after the Eagles and after the front office signed Jake Arrieta.

Kapler is in real danger of losing his clubhouse, especially the bullpen, who must wonder if this guy knows what the hell he is doing. He is slowly losing the media, who are openly questioning his bad decisions and the colossal blunder Klentak may have made in hiring this bum. And Kapler is quickly losing the fan base, at least based upon the reaction on sports talk radio.

I don't see things getting any better soon, as Kapler believes in his mistakes and seems either stubborn or stupid to admit them. With analytics, one move may go wrong, but on average, if one plays the percentages, most of the time his disastrous moves will work. Or so Kapler and Klentek think. So the manger will keep making the same awful moves, as he did in Atlanta, hoping the inevitable happens and he will look like a genius.

- With two days off in a row, let's see if things calm down against the Mets. Will Kingery finally get to play second base? Does a starting pitcher last til the seventh inning? Will Kapler use nine pitchers in a game again?  What will be the latest screw-up tonight? Howe does Kapler erase the bad taste he has left in the fans' mouths? Will he continue to over-manage, hoping he is proven right by his ridiculous moves, and hoping to undo the negative vibes he has given off to fans so far. Never can make a first impression again, and my first impression of Kapler is that he is a complete moron.

- The Sixers go for win number 11 in a row tonight, while the Flyers are back in action. Both of our winter teams are gearing up for the playoffs now, with the finished line in full view.

- All is quiet with the Eagles as the draft is only three weeks away, and the NFL schedule is officially announced in two weeks.
