IDOL CHATTER- MONDAY NIGHT

- Once again I was bored by the so-called "all-star duets" on Monday's edition of Idol. No one is standing out in this group so far, and when paired with professional singers, you can clearly see the difference in voice and stage presence.

- Again I felt last night's show was too "scripted" and will look forward to the upcoming live shows, when America will vote for the winners.

- The judges did cut five singers, which surprises me since they haven't heard the last 12. What if they all suck?

- I was sad to see lil' Layla Spring go. I thought she could be America's sweetheart, but she was wallowed up by the other big-voices in the female ranks of the competition. Hopefully she tries out next year ( if there is a next year. There is a rumor that Idol was get the ax after this season, despite the ratings). For now cute Layla goes back to Kentucky with her horses and her waitress job at her family's cafe.

- Disappointed and outraged were the words i felt when quirky and weird Catie Turner made it to the Final 14. She can't sing and she's goofy, yet the judges love her. Hopefully America has more sense and gets rid of her soon.

-Wannabes Michelle and Gabby made it, but I don't see them winning. I was wrong about Michael J. Woodard. He made it after he was interview this week by Action News in Philly. Either he was booted off or he flew home for the week. Obviously it was the latter.Dennis Lorenzo, another Philly guy, also went thru. The rocker Cade was an obvious choice to get to the Final 14. I think he's at least Top 5 material.

- As for the contestants who were sent home I wasn't surprised that the goat-farmer who always wore black was sent packing. He looked sinister, sang sad, depressing songs, and appeared like The Undertaker in professional wrestling. With a gravelly, below-average voice and little personality, would you buy one of his cds or pay good money for a ticket to one of his concerts?

- They drew out the cuts last night, with the predictable long pauses. I liked the judges better during the auditions, when you could see their personalities shine. I get it- Idol isn't about the judges ( despite the fact Katy Perry is getting paid $25 million to do Idol. Hopefully the judges can get back to themselves once the really live shows begin. They are too nice and I miss Simon Cowell, who was funny and honest.
