PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, SIXERS

- Not surprised that Jake Arrieta is struggling early. he didn't have a full spring training, plus he was shaky in Florida. Arrieta pitched four innings yesterday, and retired 10 of the last 11 Miami Marlins he faced.

- Scott Kingery needs to play more. With J.P. Crawford only hitting .045 ( do the Phils miss Freddy Galvis, who is hitting .330 in San Diego?) will Kingery become the future shortstop? Franco has gotten off to hot start. So has Hernandez. The outfield is already crowded. So shortstop seems like the natural position for Kingery to play.

- After scoring 20 runs and gathering 20 hits Saturday night, why didn't Kapler come back with the same line-up on Sunday?

-After one full week of play the Mets lead the NL East with a record of 7-1. The veterans they signed during the off-season- Frazier, Gonzalez and Bruce, so far are paying off. After starting off 4-0, the  Nationals have cooled off, despite Bryce Harpers' hot start.

No surprise that Arizona is out to an early lead in NL West. The favorite Dodgers are struggling.  I'm surprised that Pittsburgh has gotten off fast, leading the NL Central. How about the Red Sox going 8-1 so far, while the Yankees are an average 5-5 and their prize off-season acquisition, Giancarlos Stanton, already has two five strikeout games. The world champion Astros are picking up where they left off, while the Angels and Ohtani stay in the hunt. Ohtani pitched perfect baseball Sunday afternoon vs Oakland, with 12 strikeouts. He also has three home runs in the early going. And before you wonder why the Phillies weren't in the Ohtani bidding, the Japanese superstar wanted to play on the West Coast.

- The Sixers have won 14 games in a row, after beating the Mavericks on Sunday. They should finish the regular season at 16 consecutive victories. hopefully center Joel Embiid will return form injury for the playoffs.

Meanwhile the Flyers begin playoff action Wednesday and Friday in Pittsburgh, coming home next Sunday at 3:00 to face the Penguins. Splitting in Pittsburgh is a must.
