On George Washington's Birthday, the U.S. hockey team outplayed the heavily favored Soviet Union in Olympic Games medal-round play.

Mike Eruzione's goal, with 10 minutes remaining, created the 4-3 difference that advanced the Americans into the championship game.

TV commentator Al Michaels answered himself: "...Yes!"

Two days later, coach Herb Brooks' team USA defeated Finland 4-2 for the gold medal. (Lake Placid, New York, February 22, 1980)
