- Charlie has a successful run as the manager of the Cleveland Indians from 2000-2002, collecting 90 wins in his two full seasons with the Tribe and winning the AL Central division in 2001.
- Under Manuel, the Phils finished .500 or better in all but one of his nine seasons , going 27-19 in the postseason.
_ As a player, Manuel spent seven seasons in Minnesota's farm system and won the Triple Crown with their single-A affiliate in 1967. He played professionally in Japan for six years, where he became a popular figure, dubbed "Aka-Oni" (The Red Devil) by Japanese fans. He hit 48 homers in 1982 for the Kintetsu Buffakoes, the year before becoming the first American to win the Most Valuable Player Award.
