Which Phjillie became the first big-league pitcher since Cy Young to win 100 or more games in each league?


Answer: Jim Bunning, who won 118 games in the American League with the tigers before coming to Philadelphia and 106 games in the National League ( 89 with the Phillies).

Jim Bunning Facts:

  - The Phillies acquired Bunning, along with catcher Gus Triandos, on December 4, 1963, from the Tigers for outfielder Don Demeter and pitcher Jack Hamilton.

- Bunning pitched a perfect game against the New York Mets on Father's Day, June 21, 1964.

- Bunning never win a Cy Young Award in his 17-year career and was a 20-game winner just once, but he was selected to seven All-Star teams, led the league in innings pitched twice, and in strikeouts three times.

- Bunning  retired in 1971. He became a player agent and eventually a politician. Bunning was elected to the Kentucky State Senate in 1979, to the House of Representatives in 1986, and to the US Senate in 1998. Bunning died on May 26, 2017 from a stroke at age 85.
