- Ashburn was a career .308 hitter, batted over .300 in a season nine times, and was a four-time All-Star in his 12 years with the Phillies.
- Originally a catcher before converting to center field.
- Led the NL in singles four times. Third in Phillies' history in hits ( 2,2170. Led NL in triples ( 14) in 1950.
- Holds major-league record with four seasons of 500 or more putouts in center field.
- Traded to Cubs in 1960. Hit .306 (at age 35) with 1962 Mets (they lost a record 120 games), and was Mets' lone All-Star. One of only 11 players to hit .300 or better in his final season.
- joined Phillies broadcast team in 1963 until his death in 1997.
- Inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown along with Mike Schmidt in 1995.
