PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- EAGLES, PHILLIES

 * Angelo Cataldi made a compelling case this morning  for why the Eagles will trade QB Nick Foles  before the start of next season. He is positive that Foles has played his last game for the Birds. Why?

- The Eagles are about $10 million over the salary car. Trading Foles would free up $ 7 million.

- The Eagles love third-string quarterback Nate Sudfeld.

- The Birds don't have a second or third round draft pick this spring. Trading Foles should bring back at least a No. 1 pick.

- Foles may walk after next year when his contract is up. The Eagles wouldn't get anything, whereas now, Foles' value will never be higher now.

- After getting the rock star treatment on various talk shows since winning the Super bowl, Foles  may be back-tracking on his stance of  returning to back-up status and holding a clipboard for Carson Wentz on the sidelines.

I said before, it will be up to Foles if he stays or goes.Unless GM Howie Rossman is overwhelmed by a trade offer at the draft in April, I think Foles stays- at least until the Birds know for sure if Wentz is healthy to start the season. Foles would be a great insurance policy but I can see a QB controversy down the road, especially  if Wentz doesn't play well.

Can the Eagles afford the luxury of keeping both Wentz and Foles, with both due  for new contracts soon?Rossman loves draft picks, so the time is right to cash in for a back-up QB, especially when you've already got your franchise QB.

Would the fans go nuts if Foles is traded? Or would they accept the picks and return their love to Wentz?

You want to keep Foles through training camp but his worth will never be higher right now, and the draft is only in two months. What to do?

The Phillies are scouting former SF Giants ace Tim Linsecum. He won two Cy Young Awards in his day, but has had arm troubles the last few years and has drifted around baseball since.

Linsecum would be an OK # 5 starter but the Phils really need to sign Jake Arrieta to show me they are serious and not playing cheap with free agents again.
