PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, EAGLES

- Must-win for Phillies in New York last night. Nola wins 16th game. With Braves loss in Arizona, Phils move to 2 1/2 back f Atlanta for 1st place in NL East. Crucial week, as Braves visit Diamondbacks and Giants, while Philadelphia faces the Mets then comes home for fading Washington.  Need to mkae-up ground before those 7 final pivito; game with Atlanta finish regular season, including last 3 at Citizens Bank Park.

- Stealing bases helped lead Phillies past Noah Synderguard last week in Philly. They need to run on him again tonight. Roamn Quinn has a swollen foot and may not play tonight, a blow to the team.Last night they hit a pair of home runs amd won. That won' happene every game they need to manufactrer runs, especially when the pitching gets tougher in the playoffs.Less strike-outs, putting the ball in play more, movig runners withs tolen bases and executing bunts will be key.

-The bullpen especially Dominguez and Hunter, were excellent. Still no bona fide closer. Kapler continues to be flexible with his 'pen. Now the astarters after Nola need to step up, starting with Eflin tonight at Citi Field.

- After the Eagles' big win: good to see the Birds still looked hungry and had an edge. Too many good guys in the locker room, vets like Peters, Sproles and Wentz, who want a taste of another Super Bowl, to ward off any complacency.

- Without an Eagle game on Sunday I'll be looking for the Giants- Jags or Cowboys-Panthers. late game I'll look for Redskins-Cardinals. Sunday night will be Bears-Packers  and Monday night is Lions-Jets, a game I'll have interest in as my Last Fan Standing pick.

- Even though the Tennessee game, Game No. 4, could be a trap, a win there could very well mean the Birds get off to a 4-0 start leading up to the big NFC Championship rematch of Eagles vs. Vikings. I'll be at that game on Sunday, October 7 at 4:25.

- Remember that Monday will be the NFL Wrap-up, here on the blog, a break-down of every weekend game, and a mini-preview for next week.
