My thoughts on the Eagle loss at Tampa Bay..
- Thank you moron Chip Kelly. Releasing DeSean Jackson in the prime of his career. He has burned the Birds ever since with big plays in Washington, then yesterday in Tampa. First play of the game, 75-yard bomb for an early touchdown. It's what D-Jax does. Why wasn't the Eagles' defense ready for the bomb?
- I have never been a big Jim Schwartz fan,. He's no Jim Johnson. Just because the Eagles won the Super Bowl one forgets all the yards the defense gave up to Tom Brady and the Patriots.
- Jalan Mills isn't as good as the Eagles or he thinks. Too soft. He got burned by Jackson then played way off the rest of the game. Mike Evans, the bigger possession-type receiver, had his way with Ronald Darby most of the game. Clearly, the Bucs wide outs were just better than the Eagle corner backs.Where is Sidney Jones?
- Fat and sassy/ Doesn't seem like the fans are so upset about the loss. Are the coaches and players feeling the same way? I'm upset because it was a winnable game on the schedule, road game or not. No Winston as quarterback, the Birds made Ryan Fitzpatrick look like Joe Montana.
- Where was the pass rush?
- Kicker Jake Elliot needs a wake-up call too? He maybe made the crucial play of last season, kicking a 61-yard game-winner against the Giants, but he continues to miss extra points and shorter field goals. His miss at the end of the first half was big and changed the complexion of the game. I'm surprised the coaches didn't have another kicker in camp as some competition for Elliot. Meanwhile, the other kicker, punter Cameron, had a big game and helped to even the playing field all afternoon.
- What was Coach Pederson thinking at the end, taking his time scoring with a little over 4 minutes left in the game, and the team needing two scores. The Eagles eventually got the ball back in the end- at the 10-yard line , with only 19 seconds left. Seems like Pederson reverted back to his Andy Reid-like clock management problems. Is the fact some of his coaches are there anymore to guide pederson reason to worry?
- Eagle fans made the trip to Florida, but in a bigger stadium, they seemed swallowed by Buc fans
- No adjustments made by Schwartz and the defense in the second half. We have been down this road before, with Schwartz and no adjustments. He doesn't think on the fly that well.
- Vitai filled in for the injured Jason Peters and again offered a lackluster effort. You gotta wonder about Peters, breaking down so often now with injuries.
- Will GM Howie Rossman get on the phone and try to get disgruntled and often-troubled Josh Gordon from the Browns? Without Jeffery this team lacks weapons. Wouldn't Jackson look good in midnight green right now? Why wasn't he signed as a free agent?
- Nick Foles had a brilliant streak during the playoffs but is showing his true colors now. Was it a mistake by Rossman not to trade Foles after the Super Bowl when his value was at it's highest? He did make a nice throw in the corner of the end zone to Agholor in the 4th quarter.
- Yes, it was the head refs first game yesterday. But stop blaming the refs for all the penalties and shoddy play. The Birds, despite their desperate comeback late, lost to an inferior team.
So, the Eagles were 1-1 after their first two games last season. This time the loss was to an NFC team, a factor in tie-breakers for home -field advantage at the end of the season. back home next week, hopefully with Carson Wentz starting, against the Indianapolis Colts ( who upset the Redskins in Washington on Sunday. Andrew Luck is back, and Colts coach Frank Reich knows the Philly offense and their QBs.
The Birds need tow in the next two weeks, go 3-1 and put themselves in good shape to face Minnesota in the NFC Championship Game rematch on October 7.
