CHIRPING BIRDS- WRAP-UP EAGLES-FALCONS

- The Eagles didn't play their best game last night in the season opener vs Atlanta, but played well enough to win. Good teams win even when they are not at the top of their game. The Birds go 1-0 and will only get better.

- Freaky how the game, especially the end, mirrored the playoff game last January. The Falcons had countless chances to score and couldn't credit the Eagles' stout defense and also the questionable Falcon play- calling. Matt Ryan may be a really good quarterback but he fails in Philly., falling to 1-5 at the Linc.

- The "Philly-Philly' surprise play  got the offense going. It had to be a shock to Atlanta to see Coach Pederson use the play so soon after the Super Bowl.

- Great to see Darren Sproles back. Imagine the weapons when Jeffery and Wentz return. Also nice to see Jordan Hicks back at linebacker. The goal-line stands, especially on the first Atlanta drive, set up the intense game.

- The rain dampened the pre-game enthusiasm. The game was delayed by a thunderstorm for about 45 minutes. The reveling of the championship banner was dramatic. It will be a moment that will last forever.

- Mike Trout was at the game, the Angels with a night off from action.

- The Eagles are now 16-3 at home during the Pederson era.

- It was an ugly win but still a win. And again the odds makers were wrong. Late money came in on the Falcons. The Eagles thrive as underdogs.

- Is it me or do you also hold your breath every time kicker Jake Elliot tries a field goal or extra point, no matter the distance?

- Is bad reporter Mike Sielski still claiming the Eagles don't have a home field advantage?

- Funny how the weather has made some of our sports games legendary. remember the snow game vs the Lions when Shady McCoy went wild/ And the two-day rain delay during the 2008 World Series against Tampa Bay. Then last night the rain and lightning delayed the championship ceremony and start of the NFL season. it was a boring game but an exciting finish.

- While the Eagles have 10 days off to prepare fora trap game at Tampa vs the Buccaneers, Atlanta has 3 home games in a row to right their season- games against the Panthers, Saints and Bengals.

- Odd Sunday without an Eagle game, but I'll be checking out the Dallas- Carolina, Giants- Jaguars and Redskins-Cardinals games. Could the Birds be alone in 1st place in NFC East by the end of the weekend?
