- Maybe the Phillies will lose out , embarrass the front office even more, and force John Middleton and the other Phillies owners to make drastic changes after the season. Otherwise, same old analytics story in 2019.
I was all for signing Arrieta. I was wrong. He had little left of what once made him a great pitcher Now the Phillies are stuck with him for two more years. maybe he can be a competent No. 3 or 4 starter?
Arrieta was a free agent bust signing, along with Santana (who Kapler kept insisting on batting clean-up for some reason), Neshek and Hunter. I've seen enough of Hernandez, Santana, Franco and Herrera. Defense needs to improve and a big way to improve is to play players at their normal positions.
The team needs a closer. Dominguez may be a closer in the future. So, make him one. Don't pitch him two innings at a time, or in the 7th inning. Siranthony, if he is the closer next year, should strictly pitch in the 9th inning.
Signing Ramos should be a priority. He is not only a good hitter he is better defensively than Alfaro, who has potential with his raw power, but is awful behind the plate and strikes-out way too much.
Four games in Colorado coming up. They will have the pedal to the medal, going for the NL West crown and a wild card spot. Next weekend could be a different story, since I'm sure the Braves will be resting key players for the upcoming playoffs.
Finishing above .500 is so important psychologically after being in 1st place for over a month this summer. To implode and sink so low would be crushing to a fan base who don't go to the games, even when there was a pennant race.
- It has turned out to be a drizzly, rainy day here, and it looks like cool , wet conditions for the return of Carson Wentz. Hopefully that doesn't impair his footing or ability to be mobile in the pocket. Even though the Birds are down to two running backs, I think the plan is to run the ball and stick with shorter passes to the tight ends. Not that Wntz won't take shots downfield during the course of the game.
I still say Eagles 23 Colts 10
