PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, EAGLES

* The Phils have won a few spring training games and the pitching looks better. Valasquez and Pivetta, especially, have big arms but need to be more consistent and learn how to pitch.

The Phillies are off today in Florida.

* The Scott Kingery debate continues. He is having a great spring, yet may be sent down to Lehigh Valley for 13 games due to service time issues.

I get it, that the organization wants an extra year of control over Kingery if he is sent to the minors one more time. But Klentak needs to stop screwing around and trade Cesar Hernandez. Hernandez is good but Kingery has a real chance to be great.

I'm worried that if Kingery goes down Klentak will be slow in bringing him to Philly. He was super-slow in bringing up Rhys Hoskins and Nick Williams last summer. Both Klentak and Andy MacPhail are conservative and scared. But what if new manager Gabe Kapler and owner John Middleton win the argument?

Is it disrespect or just business?

* Meanwhile, Jimmy Rollins wants to retire as a Phillie but he doesn't want to just sign a  one-day contract and have a ceremony. He actually wants to play one more game then retire.

More than giving Rollins one at-bat or one inning at shortstop, he would need to take up a roster spot. It would be a nice gesture by the Phillies.

* I usually agree with Angelo Cataldi, but I disagree  with him regarding Nick Foles. Angelo wants an open competition at quarterback in training camp if Foles isn't traded. Foles should play if Wentz isn't ready in September. I think if Wentz is ready he should play. Wentz is the future. Foles is what he is- the best back-up in the NFL. The Eagles have invested so much in Wentz. Is he going to be on the sidelines holding a clipboard if he is healthy and ready to play? Wentz can just as easily lead the Birds to another Super bowl as can Foles.

Speaking of Foles, writer  Jimmy Kempski was on the WIP morning show yesterday and played the "who's in and who's out' on the Eagles as free agency draws near. He thinks Curry, Bradham, Burton and Blount are gone, among others. Peters stays. Foles will eventually be dealt, as the Eagles look to recoup draft picks and need to cut salary. if feels Wentz will be ready to start the season.

The next 10 days will be big. One drawback of winning the Super Bowl and being good is you lose players. Other teams want your good players and those good players want to be paid more.

* It's a month since the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Excitement still reigns. Eagles' caps and shirts are everywhere. Even though baseball season is almost here, and the Sixers and flyers are playoff-bound, the Birds victory is still fresh on the minds of fans. Add to the excitement that new books and videos are out, detailing the Eagles' magical season and Super Bowl run. I still can't get enough of the highlights and memories, at least until next season starts. Then it will be time to focus on repeating.
