I was at the Philly Flower Show yesterday. Here are my thoughts-
- Loved the water and flower concept. The show id full of waterfalls, fountains, streams and ponds, Lots of green. Some flowers and color, but needed more flowers at the Flower Show.
Next years' show is themed Flower Power, so hopefully more color and flowers in 2019.
- The Pa Convention Center is nice but not enough elevators to go from the lobby area up to the main concourse. Escalators, yes, but for wheelchairs, only a few well-hidden elevators.
- For a Monday there was a nice crowd in the morning. The ushers estimated 4,000 visitors around 10 am.
- Needed a taste of spring, especially with another Nor' easter on our doorstep tomorrow. And just as we may get slammed with a foot of snow the flowers at the show should be at their peak.
- Didn't see any celebrities at the show, although Smokey Robinson was there over the weekend.
- One of the coolest parts of the show was the Butterfly Experience, where, for $5, you can walk around an area where all sorts of butterflies fly freely. Two amazingly colored butterflies decided to land on me, and it's an awesome sight to see them so close. Beautiful creatures!

Going to see "A Wrinkle in Time" over the upcoming weekend. Oprah stars in the Disney fantasy film. It should be a big blockbuster and may give "Black Panther" some competition at the box office.

A puzzle on Wheel of Fortune last night was.... The category was Headline. The answer? "Philadelphia Eagles win the Super bowl" How cool is that?
I like watching Wheel of Fortune. Does that make me old? It's simple and fun. Fir her age, Vanna White still looks great!
I do get pissed at some of the players. I understand that some players get nervous, with big money at stake, so errors like calling for a vowel when it's already been called ( even though a used-letter board is off-screen for the contestants to see).
What I don't get is a player solving the puzzle when you still have tons of consonants left on the board. Being on the show is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You'll never be there again. Why chicken-out and solve the puzzle when you can spin more and make more money?
Often players are gun-shy to hit a Bankrupt or Lose a Turn, but if your'e scared, get a dog!
In the Bonus Round, players have a choice of three categories to pick from. Why take "Thing' when it can be literally anything in the world. At least topics like "What are you wearing?" or "Person" narrows it down a bit ( for instance, you can't wear a rock, and a rock can't be a person, unless it's Chris Rock).
Often the show offers really stupid puzzles. For instance, recently there was a category named Food & Drink. Pretty straight-forward, one would think. Instead, they did something stupid, whereas instead of "cupcakes" they added the word "yummy" in front of it. Not fair. You can add anything , like "dry" cupcakes or "sweet' cupcakes ( like "yellow bathrobe' or "hungry elephant").
Finally, Pat Sajak and Vanna White have the best jobs in the world. Both are super-rich and household names/faces in America. Both only work about six weeks out of the entire year, as they tape bunches of shows together. Imagine having 46 weeks of free-time with nothing to do, yet your'e incredibly wealthy?
Plus the travel must be cool. And, if they want, they do have plenty of time to branch out and do other things. And, after they are gone or have retired, they will be forever a part of Americana pop culture.
Nice work if you can get it!
