IN MY LIFE- STEVEN HAWKING

The brilliant British scientist, Steven Hawking, died today. You can check out the news and learn about his life, so here are my thoughts on Hawking..

- I wasn't exactly a fan of Hawking, but I admire him a great deal. He admitted to being an aethiest; I believe in God. But I give him so much credit, obviously he was a great scientist, but I admire his determination as a person with a disability. He lived with ALS for about 55 years. He was diagnostic with the deadly progressive disease at age 21, and given only two years to live. He died today at age 76.

- Hawking at first wasn't an advocate for people with disabilities but later became an important voice when it came to accessibility and disabled rights.

- Odd that Hawking was born on the 300th anniversary  of the death of Galileo and died on Pi day (3.14) and the anniversary of Einstein's death.

- Will be interesting if Hawking has donated his brain to science. I'm sure  it would prove to be valuable in research, not only in regards to Hawking's genius, but also his fight against ALS. I'm sure his fierce determination and will to live went a long way in fighting ALS as well.

- Hawking believed of the distinct possibility of alien life in the universe, but warned that Earthlings should not be so eager to meet beings from another world. He advised to remember when Columbus founded the New World, things didn't go so well for Native Americans. Hawking believed that aliens would be interested in Earth to cultivate the planet, and not in a good way.

- One of Hawking's best quotes: :Look up at the stars and not down at your feet." Hawking's advice to other people with disabilities: " My advice to other disabled people would be, concentrate on things your disability prevent you doing well and don't regret the things it interferes with.  Don't be disabled in spirit, as well as physically."

- Hawking will be remembered as one of the great scientists of all-time. His personal life was intriguing as well, and his life was chronicled in the 2014 movie "'The Theory of Everything", which won a best Actor Oscar for Eddie Redmayne.
