This Michael Bennett situation sucks. It's still developing, but Bennett was indited today by Houston police for an alleged incident that occurred at the 2017 Super Bowl. It's alleged that Bennett pushed an elderly paraplegic female security guard as he was attempting to get on the field to meet his brother after the Patriots beat Atlanta in Super Bowl LI. Here are my thoughts..
- Hard to believe that neither the Eagles or Seahawks knew of Bennett's problems in Houston. Howie Rossman usually investigates his signings and draft picks with the best of them. Did he just whiff on this one? Is Bennett really that bad of a guy? Will his off-the-field antics disrupt an otherwise harmonious locker room?
- Bennett is innocent until proven guilty. But if he is found guilty, can the Birds void his newly-signed contract?
- Vinny Curry has signed with Tampa Bay. What happens at defensive end if Bennett cannot play this season?
- It's a felony charge, nothing to sneeze at. If the alleged charges are true Bennett deserves whatever punishment he gets. No one is above the law. The fact the alleged victim has a disability shouldn't matter. She is elderly as well, and if Bennett did push her and caused bodily harm, no matter the age or disability, he deserves whatever he gets.
- Apparently there is no video of the alleged incident but police must have some real evidence to order an arrest. Apparently there is a witness, a police officer. Whatever, Bennett is in trouble and it will be interesting in the days ahead to see how the Eagles organization handles this mess.
