- Reliever Jim Konstanty posted a 2.66 ERA and was named National League Most Valuable Player. Konstanty went 16-7 in 74 appearances with 22 saves.

- Outfielder Del Ennis hit .311, slugged 31 homers and knocked in 126 RBIs. Catcher Andy Seminick batted .288 with 24 homers. Richie Ashburn hit .303 with 84 runs scored and a league-leading 14 triples.

- The manager was Eddie Sawyer They were in first place at the All-Star break and stayed on top all summer. The Dodgers closed to within one game of the pennant with a crucial game between Philadelphia and Brooklyn on the final day of the season, which the Phils won in Brooklyn in 10 innings on Dick Sisler's three-run home run. Roberts pitched all 10 innings for the pennant-clinching win.

-  The Phillies were swept in the World Series, 4 games to none in the World Series to the New York Yankees. The Phils wouldn't reach another World Series in another 30 years.
