IDOL CHATTER- SUNDAY NIGHT

Last night on American Idol was the worst so far out of a  dun season. The contestants didn't wow me a tall. Not one. The judges' "nice" act seems to be wearing thin, and I think it's good that Hollywood Week starts tonight and the auditions are history.

Here are my Idol thoughts..

- It was a weird night, with unusual characters. Elvis' real sixth cousin showed up, so did a real drag queen. A young chick named Jurnee kept talking about her "wife" in the military and that made me feel awkward.

- For some strange reason, the judges were letting stuff go last night and giving away Golden Tickets like candy on Halloween. Maybe the quality just wasn't there last night? Whatever, the singers weren't that good, and hopefully the weeding-out process begins tonight.

Enough with the sad background stories and the schmoozing up to the judges with cookies and flowers. Let the real competition begin! Up until now, the contestants vied to make it to Hollywood. Now they are literally up against teach other.

- I love Katy Perry so far, but her quirkiness was annoying for the first time during her segments about loving snacks. Who cares?

And although I have liked the judges thus far, and their constructive criticism without being rude, I still miss Simon and his honesty and bluntness, especially after Sunday night and seeing so many losers still go  to Hollywood. A little dose of reality isn't a bad thing sometimes and Simon certainly did keep it real most of the time. Maybe it was because he is a Record Executive and this current crop of judges are all performers. Simon saw it one way, as a business, whereas these judges can relate to the contestants because they were newbees once too.

- Out of a weak lot, my favorite last night was the Elvis impersonator named Drake Milligan. He has a deep, rich voice and likes country music. Thank God he didn't do an Elvis song or perform his Elvis act on stage.

- So apparently 179 people went on to Hollywood. The final group has already been decided but I want to be surprised so I won't be checking out the internet for leaks. This starts the more interesting part of Idol. I also can't wait for the live shows to begin, with the theme nights. Time to find out who's got it and who doesn't.
