* The Sixers lost by 5 points in their season opener at Washington. The third quarter did them in. Give the Sixers credit for playing it close to the end. The team needs to learn how to win and close out games.
Coach Brett Brown is a loser. He is so ingrained with losing after 4 years, he deemed last night a moral victory.
Philly has talent now. They aren't tanking anymore. They are expected to win. No more rebuilding. No more "trust the Process." Time to win.
Brown always tries to rationalize losses. He can't give us that stupid double-talk nonsense anymore.
Brown seems like a nice guy, but he's been a puppet for the organization. Is he a good coach or not? We will find out this year.
In many ways the Sixers are like the Phillies. They need to lose the LOSER mentality. No more moral victories. Time to win. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.Stop with the negative attitude.
Unfortunately, the media fuels the loser mentality. That's why losers like Brown and Matt Klentak get free passes in the city.
Thje 76'ers next game is Friday night, their home opener against arch-rival Boston. make it a successful home opener by beating the dreaded Celtics. Stop with the moral victory crap.
I like what vet J.J. Reddick said after the game last night. Don't be satisfied with losing. Don't settle for mediocrity. Strive for excellence. Don't be a Brett Brown.
* Joel Embiid ended up playing 27 minutes against the Wizards. Good for him. Hopefully Brown listens to the player, not the goofy doctors, and will play Embiid as he sees fit.

The Yankees took a 3-2 lead in the American League Championship Series, beating the Astros 5-0 Wednesday night. New York took all 3 games at Yankee Stadium. Now they go back to Houston, where the Astros need to take both games.
Meanwhile, the Cubs temporarily kept their season alive by defeating the Dodgers . Chicago is still down 3 games to 1 in the NL Championship Series. I expect the Cubbies to win tonight in Wrigley Field, only to return to Los Angeles where the Dodgers will put the Cubs out of their misery.
The Cubs and their long-suffering fans had a dream year, finally breaking the jinx and winning their first World Series since 1908. When the Cubs came to Citizens Bank Park in last August to play the Phillies in a weekend series, the Phils beat them 2 out of 3 games. I was at the lone loss, a 17-2 drubbing. Cub fans invaded our park and took over, raising a white flag with a blue W, as they do at Wrigley Field, rubbing it in the Phillies' faces. So, I'm glad the Cubs' fans had their day in the sun, finally able to cheer about a world title. But now I'm also glad they are going to lose.
I wrote in the blog that I thought there would be a revival of the Yankees-Dodgers World Series soon. Both organizations are loaded with young stars. Both farm systems are stocked with prospects. Both teams have loads of money to spend on free agents. They should be good for years to come.
But I didn't think we would see a Yankees-Dodgers World Series this year. Not yet.
It still ain't happening yet. Each team needs one more victory to punch their ticket into the Fall Classic. But don't be surprised if it happens.Judge and Sanchez vs. Bellinger and Kershaw.
If it does happen, I'll write about the history behind the New York- Brooklyn/LA World Series. here in the blog.

* The NFL Draft next spring will be in Dallas. Not a bad thing. Dallas can screw it up and then the NFL will be begging Philadelphia to come back.
Plus too much of a good thing doesn't make it so special. Philly did up the Draft great in the spring. The NFL knows it too and can always return. They want to spread the Draft around the league, which is fine.
Next time in Philly ( and I'm sure it will be back someday) it will be savored and appreciated, by both our Eagles fans and the NFL itself.
* Monday night can't come soon enough. It seems so long since the Birds played, even though it was only a week ago. It will be a huge game, as Philly needs to step on the gas and step on the Redskins' neck.
Winning gives the Eagles a 3-0 mark in the NFC East. Winning sweeps Washington, making it tough for the 'Skins to win the division. Winning lifts the Eagles' record to 6-2 and solidifies their status at the top of the league. With games against San Francisco and Denver coming up at the Linc, the Eagles would be in even better shape with a victory this Monday night.
The Eagles are on a roll. Washington has had the Birds' number, up until the season opener. The Redskins will be without several key players, including young star Jonathan Allen and CB Josh Norman.
The 'Skins are the more desperate team. The Eagles are the more rested team. As always, the game will come down to turnovers. The Eagles need to get a consistent pass rush on QB Kirk \Cousins. if so, the Eagles win.
I say Eagles 31 Redskins 17
.
