It will be a total disgrace if the Phillies don't at least give ex-Yankees manager Joe Girardi an interview.
Girardi was let go by New York this week, after taking the young Yanks to the brink of the World Series. He has been a good, solid skipper for many years. He would be a perfect fit for this young Phillies team.
Instead, its been reported the Phillies' organization will not grant Girardi an interview. They reportedly have their short-list of managerial candidates, and hope to name a guy , maybe as soon as this week, before the upcoming Winter Meetings.
No, losers Matt Klentak and Andy MacPhail don't want a solid manager who will take this young squad to the next level. They would rather hire a no-name bum, an analytics puppet they can control.
I'm sick of these guys. I actually dread upcoming free agency, knowing Klentak won't sign anyone of note. He won't sign a few solid pitchers who may make the staff competitive and give the team a chance to win next summer.
Even the upcoming trading season looks bleak. The only significant deal Klentak has made so far, Ken Giles to Houston, looks like a bust so far.
And I won't even mention the fiasco of Michael Saunders...That Scott Kingery may not reach Philly until after May..Or mention their No. 1 draft choices are hitting .250
.I'm OK with Dusty Warthan but when you have a manager like Girardi out there, you at least talk to him.
Instead he will go to Washington and take the Nationals to the World Series.
