IN MY LIFE- HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLOG, SNL, MONTY HALL

* Today is one year since i started this blog. Over 600 posts!  It's important to share items about disability news. I hope those who are reading this find the info helpful and interesting. The sports posts are fun to share my opinions and predictions. Trivia is a a light-hearted diversion. Reviews of movies, concerts and records in my life are cool to share as well.

Not sure who is reading the blog daily, if anyone, but I enjoy doing it. No annoying ads, just log on and re Not enough traffic to warrant  adding ads. it doesn't matter. The blog started as a fun project, so it's good to keep it that way.

. Hopefully the topics make you think and discuss and you'll want to come back for more. Glad to share my life with those interested. The ups and downs, the fun and sad times, the memories and reflections. .I'll keep on doing it as long as I enjoy it, so let's go for two years and see what happens!

* I was really looking forward to last night's season premiere of SNL- Saturday Night Live. I was disappointed by the show.

The opening was Alec Baldwin playing President Trump again, which is one of the main reasons for watching. Last year the country needed some comic relief amidst the intense political atmosphere. We are still in turmoil, and hopefully SNL will keep us laughing and thinking.

But the show did not start off on a good foot. The opening skit was OK. I think Kate McKinnion is the best actor on the show.. But after the Trump opener, it was pretty much a below-average show. I hardly laughed at all and caught myself checking the clock to see when the entire mess was over.

Can't believe they had all summer to write such crap! There was one of the most horrible, unfunny skits about a character called Henrietta the Hen, a chicken in love with Ryan Gosling.

Speaking of which, I was never a big Ryan Gosling fan, and last night reminded me why. Several actors cracked up a few times during the show, which elicited cheers from the audience. I'm glad they found their lines humorous.

Musical guest Jay-Z was annoying. I'm glad he turned down an invitation to be the entertainment during halftime of the Super bowl. I'm not a rap fan at all, but Jay-Z seemed disinterested too.

The SNL Update news slot was the same ol' stuff, more Trump-bashing and a silly skit starring The Guy Who Just Bought A Boat character, a preppy millennial type.Maybe fellow millennials find it funny ( or maybe not, as they probably don't see themselves in that vein).

I'll give SNL another week tog e tit's act together. Maybe it was just a bad week or bad acting form the new people and Gosling. Maybe SNL is full of itself anymore, reading it's past reviews and still basking in the glow of their newly-earned Emmys. It's all in the writing, and hopefully this writing team rebounds and has a strong week next time out.

* Game-show host Monty Hall died yesterday t his Los Angeles home. He was 96.

Hall will always be remembered as the host of Let's Make A Deal. No one hosted that show better. He wasn't my favorite game-show host, nor was the show a favorite. But it was fun, with people dressing goofy and Hall doling-out money by asking for weird, small items like a book of matches or a stamp for $100.

Funny how one host is forever linked to a specific game-show, which makes him very famous and very rich. Can you see anyone else hosting Wheel of Fortune other than Pat Sajak? Jeopardy and Alex Trebek. The Newlywed Game and Bob Eubanks. The Price is Right and Bob Barker ( sorry, Drew Carey).

Most of the time game-show hosts don't do anything else but host game-shows. They don't sing, dance or act. They host. Regis Philbin hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire but previously was known as a talk-show host. Hugh Downs hosted Concentration but was also a news guy.

Interesting to note that guys like Sajak only work about five weeks out of the year. They taped a bunch of episodes in chunks. Yes, I'm sure they do promo work, travel and other stuff during the other 47 weeks of the year. But it's a great gig if you can get it.

So, Rest in Peace, Monty Hall. I hope you picked the right door in the afterlife and got the Big Deal you richly deserved.
