* I listened to the rest of the Andy MacFailure news conference yesterday and I' m sorry I wasted my time.
After the news conference I'm feeling even more frustrated and depressed about the Phillies' future. All of the good feelings late in the season From Hoskins and the other young kids went out the window after hearing the team President ( who made sure everyone knew he is the President- the pompous ass).
Bottom line is: they won't be spending much money on free agents this off-season, even though they have the money. Owner John Middleton wants to win really bad and has got money to burn. But apparently the genius duo of Clueless Klentak and MacFailure talked him out of that crazy idea.
But the organization is planning on sprucing up Citizens Bank Park, with a new field, new PA sound system and lighting ( so the fans can better see the next Michael Saunders and Clay Butholtz).
One wonders why Middleton is putting up with this crap? The fans want to win. Why is he employing such losers?
Middleton is our saving grace. He has the power to do something positive for the franchise and the fans.
He's got the money to pay a Darvish or Arrieta while the young pitchers like Sixto Sanchez makes his way to Philly. Give the fans some hope.
After MacFailure spoke yesterday, I'm less inclined to buy tickets next summer than before.
Between Klentak and MacFailure, we are screwed.

* Good luck to the Flyers! They face-off tonight at San Jose, playing the Sharks. Tough 4-game Western swing to open the season. The Flyers seem to always get off to bad starts. it would be nice to get off fast, not always climb from behind. It should be an exciting year, with all the rookies and young players in Philly now. I see the Flyers making the playoffs this year. Like all the Philadelphia sports teams, they are young and there is hope for a bright future.
Will the Penguins do a three-peat? They still have the talent and drive. Who will rise up and stop them? The Capitols or the Rangers?

* The Sixers start their pre-season schedule tonight with a home game against Memphis. Joel Embiid has been ruled out of the first two exhibition contests, even though he was seen plying tennis the other evening.
I get it. make sure Embiid is healthy and ready for the start of the regular season soon. I will get concerned if he can't play in the opener. Six months out of so-called "minor" surgery to his knee and the Sixers' ultra-conservative medical staff are still babying Embiid. This time he is buying into it.
I really want to get excited about the 76'ers this season. It's annoying that Sixers management and medical staff are so cautious and dishonest with the fans. Let Embiid play. If he gets hurt, he gets hurt, then you know what you have.

* The Eagles are getting ready to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. I'll be there. Supposed to be a warm, humid, summer-like day.The fans should be stoked.
The Birds are 6 1/2 point favorites. I think they will win. The Cards aren't what they used to be.Arizona doesn't play well in the East Coast time zone. But WR Larry Fitzgerald always tortures the Eagles. QB Carson Palmer still has his moments. WR John Brown has blazing speed, which worries me with Philadelphia's secondary.
I'm thinking of picking the Birds in my Last Fan Standing football pool. If I'm scared, get a dog (I already have one). I'm just leery of the Eagles having a letdown and Arizona torching our defense.
We have Carson Wentz ( the better Carson). I think it will be a shoot-out Sunday afternoon. Will the Eagles be still standing come 4:00 p.m. ? Going 4-1 would be terrific, with Dallas playing another tough game vs. Green Bay, Washington on a bye, and the Giants reeling.

* The baseball playoffs started last night, with the American League Wild Card game being played at Yankee Stadium. New York beat the upstart Minnesota Twins, 8-4. The Yanks led baseball in home runs over the summer, and they hit three more homers last night, including an Aaron Judge bomb.
Give the young Twins credit for an outstanding season, going toe-to-toe with the red-hot Indians and making the playoffs after losing 103 games in 2016. They are young and will be back.
The Yankees go to Cleveland Thursday night to face the Tribe. New York may not win the series but they have a shot with their power and bullpen.
I said it before- An old-time Yankees-Dodgers World Series isn't far off the horizon. Both storied franchises have good young players, deep farm systems and tons of cash to spend to supplement their rosters. Both have a long way to go to meet this year, but it will happen sooner than later. Bet on it.
Tonight is the National league Wild Card game between the Diamondbacks and the Rockies. I see the D-Backs getting by Colorado and facing the Dodgers in what will be a good division series.
Speaking of which, the AL division series starts Thursday with the Yanks-Indians but also the Red Sox- Astros. I like Boston to hold serve.
