PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES

- I still don't agree with the embarrassment of the 24-4 surrender the other night to the Mets, but kudos to the team for bouncing back and winning the next two games. The Phils are now 1/2 game behind Atlanta for 1st place. The nationals move to 7 back and play the Phillies 6 times in the next two weeks. If the Phillies even split those games that will hold off any Washington surge.

- The club stole 5 bases last night. Bad throwing catcher on the Mets, plus pitcher Noah Syndergaard is very slow to the plate. I like this exciting kind of baseball. It moves runners and puts pressure on the defense. But don't expect this to become commonplace. Analytics do not promote things like stealing, bunts or giving away outs to move runners. That's not Kapler's way. but when the situation is right it's nice to see the Phils use their speed.

- Aaron Nola went 14-3 , striking out 11 in 7 innings. He is a true ace and remains dominant. Up to Arrieta to win tonight vs deGrome. Sunday night is on ESPN in Williamsport.

- I still want Bour to play more than Santana, Ramos to catch more than Alfaro, and Hernandez not to hit lead-ff.

- Good luck to my pal, Steve Trevelise, on his upcoming heart procedure! rest and get well on your vacation!
