- The Phillies won a big game last night, maybe their most important victory this season. They split with the best team in baseball, the Boston Red Sox. They won 3-1 on Tuesday night and should've won Monday as well. Jake Arrieta stepped up and pitched a great game, as Aaron Nola did the night before. It excites the fans as to what can be in the post-season. A 5-game series means facing both at least one time, maybe Nola twice.
- I'm still not a Carlos Santana fan. Even though he got a single to knock in an insurance run, he is still a disappointment. His average hovers around .210, his defense is disappointing, he doesn't always hustle, and he prefers to walk than swing the bat. Hopefully the team trades him during the off-season and opens up first base for Hoskins.
- I'm glad Roman Quinn went 3 for 4 last night. He also played a great center field. I want him to do well, as Quinn playing well means less Herrera when he's not playing well. Quinn should be hitting near the top of the line-up. With his speed he could be the ultimate table-setter.
Also happy that Dylan Cozens is back with the big club. After being the International League Player of the Week, Cozens returns. Hopefully he gets playing time. At the very least he strengthens the bench and adds power.
- I liked the Wilson Ramos deal, even though he may not play for another 2-4 weeks. The Phils got an All-Star catcher for basically nothing. He should stabilize the shaky defense and hit for average and power. Jorge Alfaro is the catcher of the future, but he still has poor defensive problems he needs to correct. Can't deny his raw power nor his rocket arm.
Hopefully Ramos resigns with the Phillies, as he is a free agent after the season ends.
GM Klentak also obtained a lefty reliever, Aaron Louper, from Toronto. Improving the bullpen was a must. I like Dominguez, Neshek and Arano at the back of the 'pen. I'm still not a Tommy Hunter or Luis Garcia fan.
- I'm happy Chris Archer went to Pittsburgh instead of Atlanta. The Braves got an average pitcher in Kevin Gausman from Baltimore. Archer will help the Buccos, who have been surging recently. Interesting that the Pirates let go of McCuthen and Cole before the season yet sign Archer, who is under team control for several years.
Like winner's usually do, the Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox bolstered to team for the stretch run.
- The New York Mutts lost 25-4 in embarrassing fashion to the Nationals last night. The Mets are the worst, in total disarray. It couldn't happen to a better organization or fans. Imagine being a Met fan this morning, knowing there is no hope. You've got deGrom and Syndergaard, yet does it matter? Once again the Mets are whipping boys to the powerful Yankees in the Big Apple.
