PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, EAGLES, SIXERS

- Not surprisingly, the Phillies lost 2 of 3 to the Diamondbacks in Arizona. The first game on Monday, when the Phils blew a 2-0 lead in the 9th inning, was the key. They beat Zach Grienke then lost to Patrick Corbin. Corbin would be the perfect lefty in the Phillies' rotation.
- With the flat 6-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon, Philadelphia is now a slim 1/2 game ahead of Atlanta in NL East. The Braves play their final game in their series with Washington tonight.

- I was wrong. Scott Kingery is over-matched and should be sent down to Lehigh Valley to clear his head. With J.P. Crawford on the cusp of returning, Kingery, struggling thur an 0-for-20 slump, is killing the club when he is in the line-up. Send Kingery down for three weeks. Bring him back with the September call-ups and start refreshed in spring training.

- I still think the team needs to snatch a proven closer off waivers. Dominguez is showing wear-and-tear. Neshek will only pitch one inning a game. I don't trust anyone else in the bullpen. A guy like Zach Britton would've look good in the 'pen.

Also, Cole Hamels would've given the Phils experience and a lefty starter. When Wilson Ramos finally plays the team will be better-off. Cabrara from the Mets has helped. But lefty reliever Loup is average. Arizona's Escobar would've been an upgrade. Time will tell if GM Klentak's trade deadline moves will end up paying off.

- Tonight the Eagles play at the Linc for the first time since the NFC Championship Game when they face the  Steelers in a pre-season tilt. Meaningless game, hopefully no one gets hurt. The NFL needs to cut the pre-season games down to two. Neither Wentz or Foles will play tonight. Expect to see lots of Nate Sudfeld. I'm anxious to see  Sidney Jones among others.

- The NBA released part of it's schedule for the upcoming season. The Sixers open at Boston on October 18 and also play the Celtics on Christmas Day. Another Christmas game will the the LeBron-led Lakers against the defending champion Golden State Warriors.

Meanwhile the Sixers lost their top draft pick to a broken foot. Bridges is playing in Phoenix. That No. 1 draft pick is still three years away. They lost Illyasova and Bellinelli during the off-season. And they still don't have a real GM. Otherwise they look great. Vegas has them set for 54 1/2 wins. I'll take the under. They aren't as talented plus who knows about injuries with this fragile squad?
