- The Eagles lost a meaningless pre-season game last night to the Steelers. Probably the biggest news to come out of the night was the allegation that Pittsburgh was using deflated footballs. Otherwise, the rookie tight end, Dallas Goehard looked impressive, as did Fletcher Cox.
The first-team defense, as a whole, looked good in the little time they played. The offense, under QB Nate Sudfeld, was spotty. Wentz and Foles didn't play and probably won';t play next week either against New England.
- Running back Corey Clement looks like he will have a bigger role in the offense this season. Yes, Jay Ajayi may get most of the early carries, but Clement looks to handle more of a load and can catch the ball out of the backfield as well.
The NFL needs to scale back the pre-season games from 4 to 2. They charge the same for tickets and parking but it's stupid because the games mean nothing and the starters hardly play. People who live for pre-season football or even bet on the games are a joke.
- The Phillies have a chance to pad their lead in NL East this weekend, as they face the lowly Padres in San Diego. Eflin, Nola and Arrieta are scheduled to pitch. On the road or not, anything less than a sweep would be disappointing, especially since Atlanta must play the brewers and the Nationals play the Cubs.
- 1/3 of August is done and the Sixers still don't have a general manager. Coach Brett Brown is clearly the man in charge right now but so far he has failed as temporary GM. They have no first-round draft pick help, now that Smith broke his foot and Bridges plays in Phoenix. They really didn't improve themselves via trades or free agency. Plus they missed out on LeBron and Leonard. That first-rounder they got in the bridges draft night deal is still three years away.
If this is such an "up-and-coming' team, why aren't people knocking down the doors to be the Sixers' GM?
