-So, the Phillies lose 2 of 3 to lowly San Diego, split with Boston, then lose 3 of 5 to the Mets...is this a playoff team? They are lucky the braves have lost 4 in a row over the weekend at home to Colorado and remain a 1/2 game back in NL East. Now it's on to Washington for a do-or-die series for the Nationals.
- It sounds like I'm beating a dead horse but why isn't Jusitn Bour playing more? Despite Santana's meaningless home run last night when the Phils were down 7-0, Bour showed last week why he should be playing more. Santana's average still lingers around .215. He leads all first basemen in errors. yet he plays because he makes $20 million and GM Klentak doesn't want to admit that signing Santana was a mistake.
Meanwhile, Herrera plays in center field, even though he struggles at the plate and continues to make mental mistakes in CF and on the bases. Why not play Quinn more and hit him lead-off? Hernandez is not a pure lead-off hitter.
Is it any wonder why the Phillies have trouble scoring runs? It's stretch time. Figure out the money after the season. Right now, play the guys who are playing well. They wasted a golden chance of over-taking Atlanta over the weekend. As the Phillies travel to Washington and Toronto, the Braves are also on the road to Pittsburgh and Miami.
- Williamsport was a great setting for a game. Next year the Pirates and Cubs will be there. The smaller field, the players mingling with the little leaguers, the intimacy of the event was awesome.
- The Phillies keep playing inconsistently and allow mediocre pitchers to dominant them. Losing series to Cincinnati, the Padres and the Mets . It's obvious the Klentak is involved with the line-up. Klentak also once said that Michael Saunders can "carry a club for a month." Similar rumblings are being said about Odubel. But isn't it time to focus on winning the division now?
- 5-9 against the Mets, who have have their number for years now, along with problems beating bad teams like the Marlins, may cost the Phillies the playoffs. Serves them right. Not beating teams you need to clobber means you don't deserve to be in the post-season.
- Eagles' offensive tackle H. Vitai played awful against the Patriots. His lazy, lackadaisical play led to QB Nick Foles getting hurt. Now Vitai says he "wasn't ready" to play, "didn't listen to the coaches", and "needs to forget about winning the Super Bowl." How many more Birds are fat and sassy like Vitai? Are the Eagles their own worst enemy?
The Birds have a good team, better on paper than last year's championship team, but with a tougher schedule, the bulleye's on their back from hungrier teams, the Eagles can't afford to be full of themselves. No wonder other squads have problems after winning a Super Bowl. It's natural to have a bit of a let-down, even though guys like Wentz, Peters and Sproles, injured last season, should keep the team aggressive and motivated.
- Is the Sixers' Markelle Fultz going to be the Phillies' Mickey Moniak? A pair of No. 1 overall picks who are busts?
