Wolfpack top Bruins
In 1974, North Carolina State, behind the scoring of David Thompson, ended UCLA's run of seven consecutive NCAA championships- as well as the Bruins' 38-game NCAA tournament winning streak with a classic double-overtime victory in the NCAA semifinals.
UCLA's early departure in the NCAA tournament almost came against Dayton in the regional semifinals, when the bruins needed three overtimes to beat the Flyers. Coach Norm Sloan would win the first of the Wolfpack's two national titles two nights later by defeating Marquette University, 76-64.
North Carolina State 80. UCLA 77, Greensboro, North Carolina
