- Aaron Nola got hit around a bit yesterday in Florida vs Baltimore, but who cares? Nola is working on stuff, as all pitchers do in spring training. He will be ready for Opening Day in only 17 days.
I'm glad Dylan Cozens is having a good spring. I love his abilities and I'm glad he hasn't been traded so far. He will probably start the season in Lehigh Valley to get his regular bats. But with Herrera and Quinn sidelined with injuries, NickWilliams perhaps on the trade block, and with Aaron Alterr out of options, Cozens may get his chance to stick as an extra outfielder and power off the bench down the road.
Bryce Harper starts in right field today in Clearwater vs Tamp Bay. The plan is for Harper to play Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week. He will get his at-bats before Opening Day arrives.
- Big day for the Eagles. Today officially starts free agency. After 12:00 pm teams can start talking to free agents. Rumors will be flying all day, as the Buccaneers reportedly will deal former Eagle, speedy DeSean Jackson. He wants to return to the birds, and Philly does need a fast wide receiver. It will be interesting to see if the Birds take another plunge with Jackson or they go younger in the upcoming draft. Antonio Brown was traded by the Steelers to the Raiders over the weekend. Reportedly the Eagles were also in negotiations. The 31-year-old Brown is still a great receiver. I supoose Howie Rossman thought the asking price ( a third and fifth rounder) was just too high.
- What about the other exiled Steeler, Levion Bell? He would give the Eagles a bell-weather back they have missed for along time/ Rossman has the money. After his wheeling, dealing of restructuring contracts and going form $22 million over the cap to $22 under the cap, Howie has money to spend. The Eagles have always preferred to do running back by committee so it will be interesting to see if they go after the talented Bell.
- The Sixers won a big game at home on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Pacers and leap-frogging them in the Eastern Conference standings for the 3rd seed. Joel Embiid returned and scored 33 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter alone. Once again Embiid proves the point that he truly is the face of the 76er franchise. Without him in the playoffs the team has no shot.
