More American Idol and Hollywood Week last night. More solo performances. More drama as the cut down to 40 contestants was made.
During promos it showed Katie Perry crying a tone point. Right away I thought something bad had happened, especially regarding the kid who was 'rushed" to the hospital.
As it turned out the kid was fine, returning the same night. But he still couldn't sing and he ended up getting the ax. Katie was crying because one of the contestants got engaged ( she also made it through to the next round).
This season if you forget the words ( always a cardinal sin) you may get the boot or may stay. Several more Idol-wannabes forgot the lyrics, or changed their song choice at the last minute. Most were shown the door, but one kid, a heavy-set guy with high, greasy hair, not only messed up "California Dreaming" on Sunday night, but he screwed up the words again Monday night, yet he made it into the top 40.
My favorite from the auditions, Ashley Hess, did make it to the next round, but strangely, her performance wasn't shown. She's a beautiful girl with a great voice and yet they Idol producers choose to focus on a nerdy guy like Eddie Island ( who also made it through).
Juan Pablo, the Mexican crooner, was cut. Too cheesy and gimmicky. Whereas Alejandro, the hot greatest auditioner that the judges ever seen, predictably went on. I think he makes it to the Top 10, but beyond that?
The legally blind singer named Shayy made it through. She admitted to being "really nervous" but was successful in making the next round. I hope she sticks around.
No real rock n' roller this season like last season. Not as many country artists. And what originally looked like a strong female singing base has flipped to the guys having the stronger voices.
Idol continues next Sunday in Hawaii. The competition pares down from 40 to 20, then to 14. The first live show will air on April 14.
