PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, SIXERS

- You can't win them all.. That's true but the Phillies lost a game yesterday in Washington they should've won.

Down 6-2 they took an 8-6 lead into the 8th inning against the Nationals and blew it. Rhys Hoskins missed a toss from pitcher Seranthony Dominguez to allow the tying run, then new reliever David Robertson walked a trio of batters in the ninth inning to lose the ballgame.

This Phillies bullpen sucks so far this season. Free agent closer Craig Kimbrel is still not signed. If John Middleton is going to pay Bryce Harper $330 million he's got to invest in a real close like Kimbrel.

I'm also tired of Manager Gabe Kapler and his excuses for players who either fail or aren't hustling. During the off-season Kapler supposedly had a chat with the front office about being more honest with the media and the fans. I guess he hasn't learned that fans aren't stupid because he said after yesterday's game that his bullpen is "a strength."

Hoskins needs to wake up. He is hitting .180 and, aside from a grand slam in the season opener, has not done much. Amazingly, the team continues to score runs, even with Hoskins struggling out of the clean-up hole. Hopefully he doesn't let his hitting affect his fielding It's only one game and I'm sure Hoskins will come out of it soon. He is a key part of the lineup this summer and will reap the benefits of Harper hitting ahead of him.

I hope I'm wrong but I think Nola is hurt. His delivery doesn't look the same. He needs to be dragging his right arm. Does he have a sore shoulder or elbow?

Harper, so far, has been worth every penny. Aside from the off-the-field affects ( ticket sales, jersey sales), he is hitting home runs, walking and getting on base. Plus just his presence effects the rest of the lineup.

Even though it was an ugly loss, and it would've been nice to sweep the Nats in Washington, the Phillies are still 4-1 and have the next six games at home, starting with the twins this weekend.

- The Sixers lost another winnable game against a lousy opponent, losing their second game to the lowly Atlanta Hawks in two weeks. Good news for me, as I win my bet that the 76ers won't get more than 53 1/2 games this season. They can only equal their win total of last season ( 53).

As I've said before the Sixers won't go anywhere with Coach Brett Brown at the helm. True, it's still the regular season. How well they do in the playoffs will determine Brown's fate .Let's see if Joel Embiid plays tonight at home against the Milwaukee Bucks. Th team plays little defense, not a good sign going into the playoffs. They seem to have lost their desire to play or improve, preferring to coast into the post-season.

The Sixer shave the talent to go far. They lack the leadership and the heart to make it happen.
