PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, SIXERS, EAGLES

- Bryce Harper returns to Washington tonight, as the undefeated Phillies face the Nationals. I'm sure the Nats fans will boo Harper, thinking he is a traitor for leaving Washington (as their mayor tweeted). What betterr revenge then for Harper to hit a homer and the phils crush the division-rival Nats?

One early controversy is brewing: Washington is going with their ace, Max Scherzer in the opener of this two-game series. The Phillies could bring Aaron Nola back tonight, on his regular rest, and match-up with the Washington ace. Instead, Manager Gabe Kapler is going with Zach Eflin. Why not give the team a better shot to open the all-important first game in Washington by going with Nola?

If Eflin somehow beats Scherzer it will be brilliant having Nola sweep the Nats tomorrow afternoon. Maybe Kapler is thinking that the team will score off Scherzer anyway, so let's get five good innings out of Eflin?

With their roster, aside form maybe needing another starting pitcher, the only thing that could screw-up a healthy Phillies team this summer is the manager and his goofy decisions. Could this be one? The Phils are 3-0 heading to D.C., with a chance to do some serious damage early to their National League East rivals. Now is the time to get a lead and get first place and make the rest of the division play catch-up. Don't concede anything to the Nationals.Mets or Braves. Step on them while they are down.

I know that Nola pitched a lot of innings in 2018 and they want to preserve him this year. But Nola is young. Why bubble-wrap him so early in the season, especially going against a pitcher nine years older and against a Nationals team that should be one of your main competitors all season?Scherzer is 34 yet on his regular rest. Why isn't Nola pitching tonight and again on Sunday afternoon? Your fourth and fifth starters are in the rotation for a reason. An ace like Scherzer vs a No. 4 guy like Elfin is advantage Washington. Don't give them the momentum to possibly sweep at home. Make them  earn that momentum and those victories!

- The Sixers were routed Monday night in Dallas against a bad Mavericks team. Again, Joel Embiid sat out, "resting" ( or "load management"). Greta news for me, as now all the 76ers need to do is lose one more game in their final 6 games so I will win over $185. I bet on the Sixers not win at least 54 games this season.

Why bubble-wrap Embiid? I know he is injury-prone and the playoffs are the ultimate prize. But why ruin the momentum of playing well going into the post-season? I think, like holding out Nola tonight, it's a major mistake for the Sixers to be resting Embiid so many games.

Thank you  Coach  Brett Brown or whomever is making the decision to keep Embiid out.

- The Eagles got their power running back i Jordan Howard in a steal trade with the bears. Now Cleveland's Duke Johnson is supposed on the block. He would be the speedy, quick, elusive back that Darren Sproles was. Why not deal for Duke, plus draft a young running back in the fourth round later this month?
