- The Phillies bounced back in Miami on Sunday afternoon, beating the lowly Marlins 3-1 in 14 innings. The club took two out of three from Miami. It was a gut-check victory, as losing a series to the Marlins would've continued their downward spiral. Now the team comes home in first place.
The much- beleaguered bullpen pitched eight shutout innings, including a spectacular performance by Victor Arano, who struck out all six batters he faced. Vince Valasquex was two outs into the sixth innings with a no-hitter. His effective start may have saved his spot in the rotation.
Scott Kingery continues to play well, and even though Cesar Hernandez had a home run and home run, Kingery needs to play more.
The Phils come home tonight for a brief three-game home stand as they face the dreaded Mets, who are only a half-game behind the first place Phillies. Aaron Nola, who hopefully will get his act together starting tonight, against Noah Synderguard.
- Aftermath from Saturday's awful Sixers playoff loss:
Maybe sports guy Howard Eskin was right when he said that Ben Simmons should be traded. He can't shoot and won't shoot. He's a turnover machine and he can make free throws. Otherwise he is an All-Star.
It's really only the second year for Simmons so I would hate to give up on him. If he showed signs of getting better- or even wanting to get better- I would nix any trade involving Simmons after the season. So far he hasn't shown the motivation to get better.
Coach Brett Brown was already on thin ice. Now, after going down 1-0 to Brooklyn, losing this first round series to an average Nets team would doom Brown. If the players loved Brown they would play extra hard to save his job. It's a playoff game so do professional basketball players need reasons to play hard?
Obviously there is a lack of respect and discipline on the team. Why bring a cell phone to the bench? It's a playoff game, something you've worked for all season, and two of your players are focused on a cell?
They play no defense. Defense isn't like shooting, which can come and go every game. Defense is mostly effort and desire. This team doesn't seem to care.
Why is Ben Simmons bashing the fans for booing? The fans paid good money for their playoff tickets. They have followed this team all year and have a right to vent when they see players not playing hard or guys like Simmons who won't shoot and can't make free throws.
Must-win tonight for Philadelphia. Another home loss to Brooklyn and you can say they are done for this season. The an interesting off-season begins.
- I'm not a Tiger Woods fan.,Why should I root for a guy who dislikes his own fans and cheats on his spouses? I have little interest in Golf, and even less interest in Woods. I am amazed that even years later from his prime. People are stuck on Tiger. The TV ratings will be over the top. I still can't figure out why.
