- Monday night of Idol wasn't as bad as I imagined. They squeezed in 20 performances in two hours. I pretty much know which six contestants will or should be cut.
Some thoughts:
* I don't like Wade, the heavy-set guy with the greasy hair and the gravelly voice. But he seems to have found a niche and may hang around a bit until America votes him off.
* Lane has gone slick Hollywood, in his hair style and clothes. He thinks he's Elvis reincarnated. Not my cup of tea. Too slick and phony. He needs to be with time.
* My choice form the auditions- Ashley Hess- solidified her status. I still think she can win it all.
* America's Sweetheart, the 16-year-old Riley from Texas, can win it too. She's really cute and talented. But she picked the wrong song last night, singing Dolly Parton's "Jolene." That's a song about a woman pleading with another woman not to "take my man." Does Riley even have a man? The song wasn't believable plus she didn't hit the really high notes that a Dolly or even an Olivia Newton-john have hit with that song.
* Jeremiah, the gay preacher's son, is also a favorite. Great voice! He can win, or at least be Top 3.
* Alejandro continues to impress, but he is starting to sound the same each time. He will be a singer/songwriter type in the end. Again, he won't win but he will make the Top 5 at least.
* Ucee is a gimmick and won't win. Alyssa Ragu is like so many other young girls who pass thru the competition. Nothing about her is special. Eddie Island is like a cartoon. Doesn't have the voice to win it all.
Next week is Duo week and a complete waste of time. The famous, established stars hawk their new CD or upcoming tours, but really do little for the wannabes, who are cut down to 14. They should start the live shows next week instead of the final few weeks feeling rushed.
