PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, FLYERS, SIXERS

- The Phillies remain hot with their 4-3 victory over the nationals last night in South Philly. Rhys Hoskins, predicted to have a big year with Bryce Harper hitting ahead of him, cranked two home runs. He now has five homers in nine games.

I'm glad that Scott Kingery got a chance to play second base. He had two hits. Hopefully this propels him to play more for the struggling Cesar Hernandez.

The Phils cut down another runner at the plate, as Harper gunned down a Nat. The defense is so much improved, which is also a big reason why the team is in first place at 7-2.

Vince Valasquez just did OK, pitching  five innings. No walks, which was big. His next start in Miami on Sunday will be huge, as Valasquez has been very inconsistent during his Phillies career.

The club is 5-1 against National League East rivals so far, another big difference form 2018. Two more games with Washington, three coming up with lowly Miami, then three with the dreaded Mets coming up.

The bullpen is still shaky, as Pat Neshek closed last night but gave up a ninth inning home run and  a double. I'm sure Hector Neris, after his clean ninth inning on Sunday, should get another look soon.Craig Kimbrel remains unsigned and could be an option is the 'pen totally implodes.

The Flyers missed out on coach Joel Quinville, as the Stanley Cup winning coach inked a deal with Florida. The Orange and black can't seem to do anything right these days. The highlights of this sad season was 1. Gritty and 2. the great outdoor game against Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile the Sixers only have two games remaining in their regular season. Looks like they will play either Brooklyn or Orlando in the first round of the upcoming playoffs.  It's do-or-die for the 76ers. Get past the second round and coach Brett Brown survives and the front office resigns the core of the team and moves forward with confidence. Lose in the first or second round and suddenly Brown's job is in jeopardy and the organization may be thinking of not re-signing Butler, Harris or trading Simmons.
