PHILLY SPORTS CORNER- PHILLIES, SIXERS

- Give Phillies management credit for having enough common sense to send pitcher Nick Pivetta back to Lehigh Valley AAA. Even with a 10-run 1st inning lead Pivetta struggled to make it to the 5th inning and get a win. He needs to go back to the minors and figure things out. He was due for a breakout season but instead has been hit hard.

Jerad Echoff pitched four shutout relief innings on Tuesday night, so he is likely to take Pivetta's place in the rotation. Drew Anderson ( who pitched well over the  weekend in Miami) and others await down the farm. But I would think Eichoff gets his shot.

It was a dream 1st inning on Tuesday night, with the Phillies scoring 10 runs on a pair of three-run homers. Scott Kingery is white-hot and will play at shortstop today in place of the injured Jean Segura, who tweaked his hamstring.

I think it's a good idea to give Odubel Herrera time off ( Aaron Altherr played center field last night), as well as some of the older players. like McCuthen and  Segura some rest so they stay fresh during the long, hot Summer.

Officially, the Phillies get the All-Star Game in 2026. That year will mark America's 250th anniversary.Philadelphia will be the center of activity that wee so it's a nice event for the city to have the All-Star game in Philly. I'll be looking forward to the Home Run Derby and baseballs flying out of Citizens Bank Park and easily onto packed Ashburn Alley.

Seven years is a long time away but just think...Bryce Harper will only be about half-through  his record-setting contract. Nola, Harper, Hoskins, Kingery and maybe Dominguez and Eflin will still be around. Look for more improvements to the park by 2026. The Phillies always have a way of doing major celebrations  the right way, so I have no doubts things will be busy at the ballpark during the next decade.

Jake Arrieta tries to win the series this afternoon vs the Mets. So nice to quiet the New York fans even before they had a chance to get loud. The team is 1/2 game ahead of the Mets for first in NL East. Winning today would put a little distance between the clubs before the Phils hit the road for four in Colorado and three in new York.

-More Sixer fall-out talk, as a New York newspaper story has the 76ers in upheaval, with coach Brett Brown losing control of his team. Needless to say Brown needs to win one, probably two playoff series or else. The rest of this post-season should be very interesting.

The Eagles' schedule comes out tonight. We will go over it- game by game- in tomorrow's blog.
