THIS DAY IN SPORTS GISTORY- DECEMBER 22

The Immaculate Reception

On December 23, 1972, in an AFC playoff game between the Steelers and Raiders, Franco Harris hauled in a desperation pass from quarterback Terry Bradshaw after the ball deflected off the body of Raider safety Jack Tatum. Harris galloped 42 yards for the winning touchdown and the most famous reception in NFL history.

Instant replay would help the referees' decision made on the field and the 60 yard touchdown would count.

Final score: Steelers 13, Raiders 7.
