A review of the Eagles' magical upset of the Rams..
- Nick Foles is already a legend in Philadelphia. He is cementing his icon status by doing it again, staying cool, confident and leading the Eagles to improbable victories. I think he should play the season out, even if Wentz is healthy enough to play. Taking Foles out, and Wentz failing would cause fans to ask "what if?"
After the season Eagles management will need to make a decision- let Foles go or keep him? Sign Wentz to a long-term contract?
-The Texans have a few key players injured and may not play next Sunday against the Birds at the Linc. Plus Houston isn't used to cold weather ( would be nice to have a little snow..). Finally, the birds need the game more.
- Rookie cornerback Maddox solidified the secondary. defense Coordinator Schwartz blitzed more, to great success. Ram QB Goff had happy feet and, when pressured, missed easy throws. The offensive line gave up zero sacks. Head Coach Pederson spread the ball around and had a good night play-calling. All in all, a great team win.
- Jake Elliot again missed a key field goal, but that attempt probably never should've been tried. Why not punt the ball on 4th down and a little more than a minute left in the game? L.A. had no time-outs and needed to drive the length of the field to score a touchdown to tie. Instead, Elliot missed a 53-yard try and the Rams got the ball near mid-field.
- The Ram loss gives New Orleans even more incentive to get the 1st seed and home field advantage in the post-season. The Saints play Carolina tonight and again in two weeks. The Panthers need to lose to boost the Eagles' playoff chances.
- Running the ball helped to open up the Eagle offense. So did spreading the ball around. Always nice to know Zach Ertz is there if needed, but seems like Wentz depended on Ertz too much with his check-down short passes.
- Tons of Philly fans in Los Angeles last night.Even when they are down Eagle fans travel well.
- Nice seeing the Cowboys lose and get shut-out at Indianapolis. Can they choke? Dallas has Tampa Bay at home on Sunday and then go to New York to close out the regular season. Again, if only the Birds could've split with Dallas the NFC East would look very different this morning.
- So what does it all mean? The Rams should still win 13 games by beating the 49ers and Cardinals to close the season. Philly needs to beat the Texans and redskins to have a shot. Carolina should lose at least one game to the Saints. Minnesota goes to Detroit then hosts the NFC North champion Bears. Chicago may still need that Viking game for seeding purposes.
Most of all the Eagles showed pride and, if they go down, will go down swinging and defending their Super Bowl title, not just meekly handing over the crown in defeat.
