This is rivalry weekend in Philly sports..
-The Eagles fly to Dallas today to face the rival Cowboys Sunday night. must-win, as the Eagles could jump into 1st place with a victory at 7-6. Lose and the season is just about over. Don't want your arch-rival to sweep the season series. The Birds need to start fast, limit turnovers and penalties, stop the Dallas running game and be aggressive.
Philadelphia can't play soft on defense. They also need to stay aggressive on offense. Don't turtle-up in the biggest game of the year.
Krugier-Hill claims "The Cowboys always choke." He apologized for the remark yesterday but the cat was already out of the bag. Gotta be smarter than to give your rival extra motivation with bulletin board smack.
Dallas has the rest, with the Eagles coming off a Monday night game on the road. The Birds have the revenge and need the game more. I say Eagles 20 Cowboys 17.
-The Flyers start a five-game road trip this afternoon in Buffalo. If they come home with a bad trip will the new GM make the move and change coaches?
- Big week ahead for the Phillies, as the Winter Meetings begin on Monday. Expect several trades and possibly several free agent announcements. Here's my Christmas Wish List for the Phillies:
* Harper and/or Machado
* a veteran catcher ( Ramos or Realmeto)
* left-handed starter ( Baumgarner)
* left-handed reliever ( Britton)
* another .300 hitter ( Pollock)
Plus..addition via subtraction, including dealing Franco, Hernandez and/or Herrera.
- The Sixers are 18-9 after winning last night in Detroit vs the Pistons. Embiid didn't play but later complained about the way he is being used since Jimmy Butler joined the team. I agree that Embiid needs to be near the rim more. I don't want him taking 3-pointers.
I'm still confident the 76ers won't win over 53 games this season.
- The Holy War continues this afternoon in Villanova when the St. Joseph's Hawks take on their arch-rival Wildcats. Villanova is good, despite having a "down" year. They won their first two Big Five games, a streak that has reached an amazing 24 games in a row. The Hawks have the incentive to knock off the defending NCAA champ. If St. Joe's ever has a chance to finally beat the Cats, it is today. St. Joseph's 86 Villanova 84
- Yet another rivalry in town when Army faces Navy at the Linc. After a long Navy winning streak, Army has won the last two games. The Cadets have a shot at a bowl game, while the midshipmen stay home this season. A victory over Army would make their year. Army 16 Navy 13
