EAGLES-REDSKINS PREVIEW

One would expect the Eagles to thrash the Redskins on Sunday afternoon. Philly needs the victory to have a shot at the playoffs ( along with a Minnesota loss to Chicago). Nick Foles is playing great, on another magical run. Washington, although playing at home  are on their third string quarterback, after Alex Smith was injured and Mark Sanchez failed.

After emotional wins over the Rams and Texans, the Birds cannot letdown against the Skins. It would be horrible if they slipped against Washington while the Vikings lost.

So, the Eagles can't worry about what is happening in Minnesota ( the Vikes and Bears also play at 4:25 on Sunday). They need to take care of business in the nation's Capitol, namely limiting turnovers and penalties, getting off to a fast start and controlling the ball.  They can't worry about the foles-Wentz debate while the season is still alive. They can't worry about injuries or what 2019 holds They can't even worry about who they might play in the playoffs. They need to focus on the here and now, the division game vs Washington.

To me, getting off to a quick start and making the redskins play from behind is key. I can imagine there will be tons of Eagle fans in D.C. Burying the Skins early may drive the Washington fans away, or better yet, to turn on their own team in frustration and disappointment.

Washington can run the ball with Adrian Peterson leading the way. otherwise they don't score many points. If Foles can lead the offense to another 30-point plus game Philadelphia should win.

Hopefully Chicago does what it says it will do and play their starters. Unless the Rams are up big against San Francisco, the Bears intend to keep the pedal to the medal. Would Chicago rather face the Vikings in the playoffs, even if it would be three times in a season? Losing to Minnesota on Sunday would mean a return match-up next weekend in Chicago. If the bears do beat the Niners( and the Eagles win) the bears play the defending Super Bowl champs at Soldier Field.

I don't think any team wants to face an experienced post-season team like the Eagles, and especially with a hot Foles. The Bears are good but inexperienced, so maybe in the back of their minds they would rather take on the vikings in the first round, which means not giving it all this Sunday in Minnesota.

That's what happens when a club doesn't take care of business early in the season. The Eagles blew winnable games to Carolina, Tampa Bay and Tennessee. Plus they were swept by rival Dallas, which killed their chances of winning the NFC East.

I think the Eagles do their part and win on Sunday., keeping an eye on the scoreboard and hoping for the best.

Eagles 31 Redskins 14
