Wrap-up of the Eagles 28-13 win over Washington..
- I had the Eagles winning 24-13. Close enough...
- The Eagles got the ball first last night, for a change. They took the ball down the field and scored, going up 7-0. Maybe we should stop deferring and take the ball to help give our offense a kick-start?
- The Monday Night Football broadcasting crew was awful, maybe the worst in sports history. Especially ex-Cowboy Jason Witten. They brought out the old, tired Philly boos Santa Claus reference, something that happened 50 years ago. Nothing original. Then we were forced to watch the great Whitten play against the Eagles back in the day. What a joke!
- Golden Tate finally got himself into the Eagles' offense. Zach Ertz now has 94 catches this season, breaking Brian Westbrook's record. Darren Sproles was back and brought speed and life into the offense. The Birds have a lot of weapons now, if only the offensive line holds up and protects Carson Wentz.
- Speaking of Wentz, he missed a few throws and had a bad interception near the goal line, otherwise he played well. Still waiting for him to run more but understand that he may be hesitant to take off.
- While Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder looked like a dope in his box, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie was tailgating with the fans and even playing cornhole.
- I don't care if the Eagles' defense only gave up one touchdown ( a franchise record 90-yard scamper by Adrian Peterson)and a mere 13 points. Jim Schwartz' defense is still too soft and not aggressive enough. Unfortunately things can't be changed until after the season. Hopefully lack of blitzing won't come back to haunt the Eagles before the season is over.
- Washington is 6-6 like the Eagles but they are in trouble. Their QB now is Mark Sanchez after Colt McCoy broke his leg in the first half. I'm sure the "skins will again pick up another quarterback off the streets to be Sanchez; back-up. Will we finally see Colin Kaepernick?
- If the Eagles beat the Cowboys Sunday afternoon, they will both be 7-6. Philly would technically be in 1st place because of a better division record. The schedule for the rest of the season clearly favors Dallas. The 'Boys play at Indianapolis, then at home against Tampa Bay, then go to New York in the season finale to face the Giants. If the Colts are serious playoff contenders they play Dallas tough. The Buc game should be no problem. The Giants is a division game, and New York is playing better but Dallas would have to be favored.
Meanwhile the Birds play at the Rams, come home to face hot Houston, then close the season at Washington. After blowing winnable games against Carolina, Tampa Bay and Tennessee, Philadelphia needs to steal a game they should not win. Could that be the Rams game in Los Angeles?
The Texans are the hottest team in football right now, but what about three weeks from now, at the cold Lin? With no real QB, at home or not Washington will be hard-presse3d to defeat the reigning Super bowl champs to finish the regular season.
Beating Dallas means everything. Lose and Dallas owns the East. Lose and even the wild card is doubtful. Bottom line is, gotta beat the Cowboys and win at least 2 of 3 the rest of the way.
