Master Melvin will be missed

On this date in 1958, the sports world mourned the tragic death of New York Giant Baseball Hall of Famer Mel Ott.

Ott died at the age of 49 after injuries sustained i a car crash in New Orleans. The 5'9" 170-pound Ott was the first National League player to reach 500 career home runs.
